청주시립미술관 개관 10주년을 맞아 마련한 특별전 《청주 현대미술: 지금, 여기의 감각》은 청주를 중심으로 활발한 창작 활동을 이어온 스무 명의 원로·중진 작가와 함께 그동안 축적해온 전시와 연구의 성과를 바탕으로 지역 미술의 오늘을 마주하고자 한다. 본 전시는 청주 현대미술이 지닌 두 층위를 보여준다. 1층 전시실은 동시대 미술의 중심에서 활발히 활동하는 중진 작가들의 작품을 중심으로 기억과 정체성, 자연과 생태, 인간과 사회, 시간과 장소에 대한 다양한 사유를 펼쳐 보인다. 2층 전시실은 청주 현대미술의 정체성을 형성하는 데 마중물 역할을 해온 원로 작가들의 작품을 소개한다. 추상과 구상, 회화와 도자, 조각과 설치를 넘나드는 오랜 탐구의 시간은 오늘의 청주 미술을 가능하게 한 예술적 토대를 보여주며, 지역 현대미술이 쌓아온 깊이와 지속성을 확인하게 한다. 이번 전시는 동시대의 감각들이 서로 만나 공명하는 자리가 되어, 우리가 살아가는 지금과 이곳을 새롭게 바라보고 동시대 청주 미술의 의미와 가능성을 함께 발견하는 기획전이다.
Organized to mark the Cheongju Museum of Art’s 10th anniversary, the special exhibition 《Cheongju Contemporary Art: Aesthetics of the Here and Now》 brings together twenty late- and mid-career artists active in and around Cheongju to reflect on the present state of regional art. The first-floor gallery features mid-career artists whose works explore memory and identity, nature and ecology, humanity and society, and time and place, revealing the dynamism and expanding horizons of Cheongju’s contemporary art. Thesecond-floor gallery presents late-career artists whose sustained explorations across abstraction and figuration, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and installation have helped shape the artistic foundations of the region.The exhibition offers an occasion for these distinct sensibilities to meet and resonate, inviting viewers to reconsider the time and place we inhabit and discover the significance and potential of contemporary art in Cheongju.
