KAIST 미술관은 현대미술의 거목 류경채(1920–95)의 예술세계 를 조망하는 특별전 《류경채: 마음의 시》를 개최한다. 1949년 제1회 대한민국미술전람회에서 대통령상을 수상하며 화단의 주목을 받은 그는 서정적 추상회화의 새로운 지평을 연 작가이자 교육자, 미술행정 가로 활동하며 한국 현대미술 발전에 큰 족적을 남겼다. 이번 전시는 故 정문술 미래산업 회장이 KAIST 미술관에 기증한 류경채 컬렉션을 중심으로 마련되었으며, 작가가 1960년대 말부터 작고 직전까지 화 폭에 담아낸 대표작 28점과 다양한 아카이브 자료를 함께 선보인다. 특히 1949년 제1회 대한민국미술전람회에서 <폐림지 근방>으로 최 고 영예인 대통령상을 수상할 당시의 상장과 표찰을 비롯한 귀중한 기록물을 최초로 공개함으로써, 작가의 삶과 예술의 궤적을 더욱 입체적 으로 드러낸다. 눈에 보이는 풍경 너머 자연의 생명력과 내면의 울림을 담아낸 그 의 작품들은 한국 서정추상의 정수를 보여준다. 이번 전시는 한 시대 를 대표한 예술가의 창작 여정을 되짚어 보고, 현대미술사의 중요한 장면을 새롭게 발견하는 뜻깊은 기회가 될 것이다.
The KAIST Art Museum presents 《RYU Kyung-chai: The Poetics of Emotion》, a special exhibition exploring the artistic world of RYU Kyung-chai, a towering figure in modern Korean art. Recognized early in his career when he received the Presidential Prize at the First National Art Exhibition of Korea in 1949, RYU played a pioneering role in the development of Korean lyrical abstract painting. Throughout his career, he was active not only as an artist but also as an educator and arts administrator, leaving a lasting legacy in the history of modern Korean art. The exhibition presents 28 major works spanning from the late 1960s to the final years of the artist’s life, together with a rich selection of archival materials. Particularly noteworthy is the first public presentation of rare historical documents related to , the work that earned RYU the Presidential Prize at the First National Art Exhibition of Korea in 1949, including the original award and exhibition plaque. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to rediscover the creative path of a master who sought to render the invisible, while illuminating a significant chapter in the history of modern Korean art.
